Crickets earn first victory and Frilsham rise to third in Newbury Sunday League
The Crickets AFC secured their first ever victory in week five of Newbury Sunday League.
The club found themselves rooted to the bottom of the table ahead of their visit to AFC Aldermaston Sunday 'B', having lost all of their first four games.
Sensing an opportunity against newcomers Aldermaston, The Crickets took full advantage with a confidence boosting 4-1 victory, leapfrogging their opponents and rising to seventh position.
Forward Ani Oko scored all four goals and secured the AutoMerc Man of the Match award for his efforts.
Elsewhere, fellow newcomers Frilsham secured their second win in a row away at Plough on the Green.
Frilsham walked away 5-1 winners thanks to goals from Dane Pretlove, Ben Watkins and a hat-trick from Jack Mann. They already find themselves third in the table.
The only other game of the day was at Douai Abbey, as Thatcham Tornadoes hosted Diamond FC.
The visitors made up for their consecutive drubbings in recent weeks, finding form to win 6-4 on Sunday.
Captain Journey Waters starred once again and received the club’s Player of the Month award for September, having scored five and registered two assists in three games.
Sunday will see Diamond host Plough on the Green, Frilsham host Tornadoes, Kingsclere return to action against Aldermaston and The Crickets face NWX.
