Hungerford Town boss Danny Robinson talks 2025 progress following 4-0 Bracknell Town win
Hungerford Town manager Danny Robinson was delighted as his side dismantled Bracknell Town 4-0 on Saturday.
The Crusaders cruised to their fourth win in 2025 thanks to a Jose Marquez brace and a goal from each wing-back, with Curtis Angell and Rhys Tyler both scoring.
Such a convincing win in a Berkshire derby has added to the growing sense of optimism at Bulpit Lane, with the side unbeaten this year and quickly leaving relegation fears in the past.
“We were far better than them,” reflected Robinson.
“It could have been more as well.
“It’s always nice to win a Berkshire Derby and it’s a big three points for us.”
Hungerford struggled in the first half of the season, with a run of eight draws in a row doing little for their league position, but they now seem to have found a winning balance.
“I definitely feel like we’ve been a bit of a slow burner,” he said.
“Now we have more of a settled squad.
“The lads we’ve brought in over the course of the season have now bedded in.
“It’s starting to bear fruit.
“We’ve got Havant & Waterlooville and Chertsey at home in quick succession now.
“We’re very much looking forward to it.”
A key part of Hungerford’s recent run has been Jose Marquez, the attacker on loan from Forest Green, who has led the way with six goals in five matches so far.
“He’s a top player,” he said.
“Both goals on Saturday were put on a plate for him by Kyle Tooze, who is having a renaissance.
“But Jose is a special talent.
“The best thing about him is his work rate.
“Some young players now just want the ball to feet so they can do their thing.
“But his endeavour is going to get him where he needs to be.
“He’s a brilliant lad, I can’t sing his praises enough.
“A great character at such a young age.”
Hungerford’s other two goals came from the other end of the experience spectrum with their two wingbacks, both seasoned pros, grabbing a goal each.
“I know what I get with Curtis Angell,” he said.
“We know each other inside out, he knows what I expect and I know what I’ll get.
“Now they’ve scored I won’t hear the end of it!
“Rhys Tyler only scores once every two years.
“If he plays on Saturday it’ll be his 300th game for the club.
“They’re proper non-league players.”
Hungerford have continued to add to their squad, with 17-year-old attacker Sopuruchukwu ‘Sops’ Obieri coming in on loan from Cheltenham Town.
“He’s the top scorer for their youth side,” he said.
“He comes with a good reputation. He’s quick and strong.
“We’re here to help with his career, as much as he’s here to help us.”
