Manager Robinson set to sign new deal at Hungerford

DANNY Robinson is set to sign a new contract as manager of Hungerford Town.

The Crusaders finished their Southern League Premier South campaign in eighth place – missing the play-offs by just four points in their first season since relegation from the National League South last year.

And Robinson believes he has unfinished business as Bulpit Lane.

The former Thatcham Town boss said: “The committee want me to stay on and have offered me a new contract.

“I love this club and the people behind the scenes here – it is an honour and a privilege to manage this club.

“Most of the squad have agreed to stay and hopefully we can move on.”

Town wrapped up their league campaign with a 1-0 win at home to local rivals Basingstoke Town in front of a crowd of nearly 800.

Robinson said: “It was a good way to finish this season.

“At this time last year we had been relegated and I was getting back on the coach after losing 5-0 at Ebbsfleet.

“There was silence on the coach and it was one of the darkest days of my life, not just football.

“But we have bounced back.

“This is a tough and horrible league with teams that have spent a lot of money and we have been competitive.

“We weren’t that far off the play-offs and we let slip 27 points from winning positions, so that is something that needs to be addressed.

“We won our first game 7-0 against Plymouth Parkway, but then lost three of the next five, so it has been a steep learning curve.”
