Didcot downed in derby test

Hungerford come from behind to maintain second spot in Evo Stik League table

Hungerford Town 2 Didcot Town 1

HUNGERFORD survived a Didcot derby test to claim the points and maintain their unbeaten streak and second spot in the Evo Stik League Southern table.

Didcot had a Sam Elkins goal disallowed in the first half for a push on Diak John and Aniclet Odihambo and Lee Henderson also went close for the visitors, while Luke Hopper rattled the bar for the home side.

But Didcot made the breakthrough four minutes after the break but it was Didcot who opened the scoring after 49 minutes when Paul Robinson headed home a Steve Davis cross.

Hungerford needed only three minutes to get back on terms however. They had already had a clear penalty denied when Kevin Halliday hauled down Hopper, but were handed a soft spot kick when the ball appeared to hit Richard Pierson in the chest and Mark Draycott netted after time out for protests.

The eventual winner came after 63 minutes when Hopper pounced in a goalmouth scramble.

RECENT signing Ray Spence has returned to Reading Town after failing to settle since joining Hungerford a month ago.
