Newbury Sunday League: Dominant Kingsclere seal county cup win

A NEWBURY Sunday League side has achieved county-level success.

Kingsclere won the Hampshire FA Sunday Trophy at the weekend, dominating the final in a 5-0 win.

Kingsclere, who finished runners-up in the league this year, travelled to Winklebury Football Complex, the home of Basingstoke Town, on Sunday for the final.

Their opponents were AFC Tukkers, who play their football in the Andover and District Sunday League.

Founded in 2018, the club had a similar season to Kingsclere, finishing runners-up in the league despite losing only two games all season.

But Kingsclere came out on top thanks to goals from Seth Fowler, Shawn Foster, Connor Thorne and a brace from man of the match Dec Shuttleworth.

A county cup win is a just reward for what has been a near perfect campaign.

Their only two losses in the league this season came to eventual unbeaten champions NWX.

In the cup however, Kingsclere beat Southampton-based Embley Park 10-0 away from home in the second round.

The third round saw a walkover win against Gosport Town, before they were awarded another walkover against Merville Athletic.

In the quarter-finals they travelled to another Southampton side, Sporting Compass, who they beat 2-1.

The semi final saw them host CT United of the Gosport, Fareham & Solent Football League, who they beat 4-1 to reach the final.

Attention now turns to next season, with the club looking to go one better in the league and snatch the title from their rivals.
