Dominant wins for Newbury Sunday League’s top sides
Kingsclere and NWX continue to set the pace in Newbury Sunday League, following dominant wins.
Kingsclere hosted AFC Aldermaston Sunday 'B' at Headley Playing Fields, where they ran out 8-0 winners to retain their place at the top of the division.
They were matched by rivals NWX, who put on a ruthless display of their own to beat The Crickets AFC 8-1 thanks to goals from Callum Yates, Alfie Davis Ellard, Louis Mckay, Tom Amor and Harry Murtagh, who scored four.
The game was played at the home of Kintbury Rangers, where NWX will hold their home games from now on.
Mikey Simpson got the Crickets’ only goal, while Ollie Bernsten was chosen as the AutoMerc Man of the Match.
Kingsclere and NWX will face each other in Kintbury this Sunday, with both sides’ unbeaten records on the line.
NWX will aim to be the first side to score past Kingsclere all season.
Diamond FC will be watching closely, as they kept touch with the leaders thanks to a 7-1 win over Plough on the Green.
Goals from MJ Godfrey, Connor Buckland, Tyler Seymour, Ty Driscoll and Aaron Duncan handed Diamond the win, with Chris Lovelock grabbing a consolation for the visitors.
Frilsham FC suffered their first defeat since entering the league, losing 3-1 away to Thatcham Tornadoes.
Luis Davies’ half-volley from 25-yards was a highlight, but was not enough to match a strong Tornadoes display.
Sunday also sees Diamond host Frilsham, while Tornadoes pay a visit to The Crickets at Henwick. All games will kick off at 10:30.
