Hungerford Town FC: Double delight for Crusaders' striker
Ryan Seager had double reason to celebrate this week.
The Hungerford Town striker struck his 20th goal of the season to earn his side a 1-0 victory over Concord Rangers in National League South.
And he and his wife Hannah were also celebrating the birth of their baby son Noah.
It's turning into another massive season for former Southampton and Yeovil striker Seager, who has now scored 33 goals in his 45 games for the Crusaders.
And his goals have helped ensure that Hungerford are right in the thick of the battle for the play-offs.
Manager Danny Robinson is delighted with Seager's form – and he was also quick to point out that his side's success this season has been a real team effort.
He said: "Ryan is a special player – a natural goalscorer.
"But I did have a bit of a go at him at half-time as he should have scored before then!
"His fellow striker Sol Wanjau-Smith has set up a lot of goals and the whole team behind him have provided the tools for him to do the job."
Seager's strike proved crucial at Bulpit Lane on Saturday as Crusaders stretched their winning home run to five games.
It was a scrappy affair, but Hungerford just had the edge, thanks to a solid display from the defence and keeper Luke Cairney.
Robinson said: "We started well and could have been 2-0, but to their credit Concord fought their way back into it and were probably on top towards half time.
"But the most important thing was grinding out the result.
"If we can start doing that away from home as well, you never know where we will end up."
Hungerford, though, face one of their toughest tests of the season on Saturday when they travel to title-chasing Maidstone.
Robinson said: "Maidstone, Ebbsfleet and Dorking are the three biggest clubs in the league.
"Maidstone are a massive club, with a massive following and they are full-time.
"But we have a full squad, which is lovely, and we are looking forward to going there and taking them on."
