Double up for schools side
Saturday saw them away to Woking in a Berkshire League fixture and a close first half ended 1-1 before Newbury put their game together after the break to record a 4-1 win with goals from George Turner and Justin Davis and two from Hosni Elarfa with Liam Smith their player of the match.
The result took Newbury back into second place in the table ahead of their fixture with league leaders Portsmouth on Saturday March 8 at Speenhamland School with a 10.30am kick off.
Sunday saw the team welcome a visiting Jersey, ahead of the visit to the island festival in the Easter break.
Newbury started well and were soon ahead with a goal from Winchcombe’s Anthony Hennis although Falkland’s Sam White had to be in fine form in goal to keep the lead intact before Speenhamland’s George Turner added a second and early in the second period.
Jersey struck twice in a minute to set up an exciting final 15t minutes as Newbury held on with Kennet Valley’s Mohamed Bouzidi their player of the match.
