Draycott scores hat-trick as Hungerford hit seven
HUNGERFORD hit seven as they kept their slim play-off hopes alive with a crushing victory over Banbury United on Saturday.
Mark Draycott got Hungerford off to the perfect start when he scored within the first 50 seconds after Banbury’s leaky defence failed to clear their lines.
Bobby Wilkinson’s side continued to attack and were rewarded when Draycott then doubled his and Hungerford’s tally eleven minutes later when he clinically fired into the roof of the net.
Banbury’s day went from bad to worse when David Baker was sent-off for bringing down Stefan Brown in the area.
However Draycott missed out on the chance for an early hat-trick as the resulting penalty kick was saved by Banbury’s 18-year-old ‘keeper Scott Dutton – who was making his first team debut.
Four minutes after the interval Hungerford made it three when Luke Hopper headed home, before Draycott completed his hat-trick after 65 minutes.
Hopper then added his second before Brown and substitute Harry Goodger reached scored within the final ten minutes to complete the rout.
Banbury have lost their last eight consecutive league games and conceded 38 goals in the process – their worst run since the 1964/65 season.
