Bucklebury duo John Holloway and Olivia May end on top in club tournament

John Holloway and Olivia May proved themselves as the strongest pair in the Bucklebury Badminton Club start of season handicapped tournament.

Group A provided an excitingly close finish when the points won by the top and bottom pair only differed by seven points.

David Haines and Cara Brims gained 82, to be first, while organisers Colin Shurey and Linda Cross brought up the rear with 75.

The difference in Group B was more striking with Andrew MacDonald and Elizabeth Craig in the lead at the end with a full 84 points, leaving Andrew Walton and Matt Lorrimore to play for the wooden spoon with Shurey and Cross.

After close quarter and semi-finals, Holloway and May were pitted against Alan Arnold and junior player, Molly Brown.

The underdogs couldn’t pull it off and the victors won 21-14.
