East heading in the right direction
There was double delight for Team Kennet in both javelin and high jump at this weekend's Southern Athletics League Division 3 West meeting.
Ben East threw a massive 66.68 metres and Luke Angell threw 61.48 metres to secure a double win.
East's throw broke the club's under-20 record and moved him to second in the UK under-20 rankings.
In the high jump, Euan Avery cleared 1.70 metres and Harry Booker cleared 1.60 metres - Kennet's second double win of the day.
Oliver Ford threw 10.48 metres for second place in the A string shot put while Harry Booker won the B string contest thanks to a throw of 9.67 metres.
Harry Booker capped a successful day with a second place in the A string discus after a 32.04 metres throw and Seb Simpson won the B string with a throw of 26.99 metres.
There were third placed finishes for Simpson - 26.40 metres - and Ford - 19.96 metres - in the hammer throw.
George Down was second in the A string long jump and Jon Simpson was second in the B string.
On track, Euan Avery finished fourth in the 100m A string in 12.2 seconds and Jon Simpson was third in the Vet 45 in 12.9 seconds.
Arthur Lane was second in the 800m in 2 mins 12.64 and fourth in the 1500m.
Casey Warwick was fourth in the 800m while Mitch Poustie was fourth in the 5000m and third in the 2000m steeplechase.
Petra Kubesova made her Kennet debut and finished second in the 3000m in an impressive 11 mins 43.6 behind GB athlete Lucy Elliot.
Eve Brown was second in the 1500m in 5 mins 20.8 and was third in the 400m.
Carly Chisholm was fourth in the A string 100m.
Amy Russell also finished fourth in both the B string 100m and 200m.
Cheryl Angell competed in all four throws and finished third in the discuss and hammer throw.
Elsewhere, Newbury AC's meeting at Andover was cancelled due to travellers on the track.
