Ella signs in with a record
ATHLETICS: Team Kennet claim seocnd place in Wessex League and age group successes
NEWCOMER Ella Houston broke a 31-year old club record when she gave a depleted Newbury AC team a lift in their final Wessex Young Athletes League meeting at Poole on Sunday.
She won the under 13 girls' high jump with a fantastic grade one clearance of 1.40 metres, beating the old club record of 1.35m that has stood since 1980.
She also finished second A in the long jump with a leap of 4.15m, while Lizzie Parker won the B string with 3.65m.
There was also an outstanding leap from under 17 Alex Craninx. The English schools high jump winner was again in fine form to take the lead and win his age group with a grade one jump.
A LAST match victory could not stop Team Kennet being pipped for the overall title in the Wessex Young Athletes League for the second season running.
They finished a single point behind Basingstoke, sharing second place with Camberley, and also finished second to Basingstoke in both under 17 groupings.
But they had the consolation of winning the age group contests for under 15 and under 13 girls, sharing the honours respectively with Woking and Basingstoke and Oxford.
The under 17 teams and under 15 boys were runners-up in their rankings, while the under 13 boys slipped to fourth.
