Eric and Sylvia Bailey end three decade spell at Thatcham Town

Thatcham Town Football Club have confirmed that Eric and Sylvia Bailey have stepped down from their roles at the club.

The pair have spent more than three decades at the club in a variety of positions.

Eric Bailey is a former chairman of the club, while Sylvia was responsible for the club’s finances for a number of years.

“Eric and Sylvia have been true stalwarts of Thatcham Town Football Club, holding a wide variety of roles over the years,” a statement read.

“Throughout their long association with the club, they have witnessed, and contributed to, many achievements and memorable moments.

“Not least among these was the unforgettable 2017/18 season, which saw Thatcham Town secure promotion to Step 4 and triumph in the FA Vase Final at Wembley Stadium, an iconic chapter in the club’s history.”

The man in charge on that famous day, current Hungerford Town manager Danny Robinson, reflected on his time working with the pair.

“Eric was always really good with me as a chairman,” Robinson reflected.

“Their family is Thatcham through and through, it was their morning, noon and night.

“They looked after me and gave me an opportunity.

“When I left Winchester City I was falling out of love with football, but Eric was brilliant to me.

“We achieved wonderful things together.

“What they’ve done for the club is unbelievable and I’d like to thank them.”

The club is now focussed on its immediate future, having been relegated to Step Five last season.

New manager Cameron Philbey is running trials in an effort to rebuild the first team.

The club is also looking for a new football secretary and physio at time of writing.

Phil Holdaway has been in place as chairman since Paul Ayres recently stepped down from the role.

“This new chapter presents an exciting opportunity for fresh ideas, renewed energy, and community involvement as we continue to grow both on and off the pitch,” the club’s statement concluded.
