Falkland still looking for first win

Falkland travel to Welwyn Garden City tomorrow (Saturday) looking to climb off the bottom of the table

FALKLAND travel to Welwyn Garden City tomorrow (Saturday) still looking for a first win of the season after their bid to climb off the bottom of the table was hampered by the rain at fellow strugglers Radlett last weekend.

A century from the recalled Jim Ettridge (108) and 65 from Bruce Martin had put Falkland in a winning position scoring 255-8 from 55.5 overs, and after Neil Gunter picked up two quick wickets to reduce Radlett to 14-2 in five overs, hopes were high of a first victory in the Home Counties Premier League this season.

However, the weather put paid to those chances and Falkland now head east to Hertfordshire to tackle another side who are yet to win this season, although with three draws Welwyn Garden City do sit seventh in the table - 18 points and three places above Falkland.

And Welwyn Garden City have scored more than 300 runs twice already this season on their home ground, including in their last home match against Tring Park, when they scored 324-6 off 64 overs.

That match ended in a draw, while their last game against league leaders High Wycombe - like Falkland's game against Radlett - was abandoned as a result of the weather after High Wycombe had scored 279-4 from 57 overs.

As a result, both sides will still be looking to pick up their first victory of the season in Saturday's clash, with Falkland again looking to climb above Radlett, who play away at last year's champions, Henley, tomorrow.
