Falkland to face early test as cricket season gets underway

The 2025 club cricket season has finally arrived.

This Saturday local clubs will kick off their campaigns ahead of an action packed summer.

The area’s top side is Falkland, who won promotion to the Home Counties Cricket League Division Two last year.

Their pre-season has been a challenging one, but that’s exactly what they were after ahead as they prepare to take on a new division.

First up is a trip to face Wokingham, who were relegated from the Home Counties Premier Division last year.

Perhaps the biggest challenge of the season is coming up first, but a positive performance will provide Falkland with plenty of early optimism.

Back in the Thames Valley League, Thatcham kick-off by hosting Purley on Thames in Division 3A.

New captain Michael Klichowicz will be hoping to start as he means to go on, in his first competitive fixture as skipper.

Elsewhere in the division, Theale & Tilehurst will host White Waltham at Douai Abbey, hoping for another high scoring campaign.

In Division 2A, Sulhamstead & Ufton begin their season away to Wargrave 2nd, while in 4A Newbury will host Binfield 2nd in their opener.

Over in the Hampshire Cricket League, a host of local sides are hoping for successful seasons.

East Woodhay had a tricky start in Division 2A however, losing to Compton & Chandlers Ford by 105 runs.

Skipper Adam Barnes’ 71 will give the side cause for hope going forward.

Hungerford 1st won their opener by one wicket away at Andover in Division 3C.

William Tulloch took 4-25 as his side took the win.

Hungerford 2nd meanwhile lost by 60 runs at home to Longparish, and will look to bounce back away to East Anton on Saturday.
