Fancy a game via an app?

The chairman of Leaderboard Golf - which runs Kingsclere’s Sandford Springs course - Paul Gibbons, has acquired the Nearest2thePin site which aims to connect golfers with others at home and abroad when they are looking for a match.
Using a challenge system, players can invite others to play a round, or simply use the messaging system to arrange a time and place to meet.
Nearest2thePin founder Jay Pidgeon said he came up with the idea after travelling extensively and finding it difficult to come up with a match.
“I grew tired of sitting in a hotel room when I could have been out on a course,” he said. “Our goal is to help golfers find other golfers, anytime, anywhere.
“By linking this service with Leaderboard tee times, players across the UK can make the most of exceptional deals, whether looking to try a new club or just complete a four ball.”
Gibbons, co-founder with Sir John Madejski of Auto Trader magazine, has bought the licence for the site for 15 years. It works in real time with a area maps showing all registered members in the vicinity.
Registered users create an optional profile with home location, handicap, golfing achievements and their club membership if applicable.
The website is at www.nearest2thepin.com and the app is available via iTunes.
