Finalists confirmed for Newbury Sunday League cups
The competitors for all four cup finals have been confirmed in Newbury Sunday League.
Two of the league’s new joiners will compete for the Vic French Cup on Sunday 27th April at Lambourn Sports Club.
Thatcham-based Crickets beat AFC Aldermaston 1-0 away from home in their semi-final on Sunday.
James Adebusoye scored the only goal of the game, while Jamie Petts took home the AutoMerc Man of the Match award.
The side beat fellow newcomers Aldbourne Royals in the quarter finals back in February.
The other semi-final saw Plough on the Green take on Frilsham at City Playground.
Frilsham opened the scoring through Lennox Churcher, who struck from thirty yards to perfectly find the bottom-left corner.
He went on to bag a brace, finding the net shortly afterwards to hand Frilsham a 2-0 half-time lead and put them in full control of the match.
The second-half saw Frilsham continue this momentum, as Dan Paladescu went on a huge lung-busting run down the wing.
He made it all the way into the box, producing a great finish to make it 3-0.
Cristi Ilie made it 4-0 late on to send his side through to a cup final in their debut season.
The Vic French Cup is one of five trophies up for grabs across the Newbury Sunday League season, including the league title, Jim Wild Memorial Shield, Lambourn Cup and Knock Out Cup.
The second Knock Out Cup semi-final was decided on Sunday, as Diamond FC put on a thrilling display against Kingsclere.
Kingsclere were 3-0 up after just 30 minutes, before two quick goals launched a spectacular comeback.
Journey Waters took advantage of this shift in momentum, scoring twice.
Ty Driscoll bagged a hat-trick, scoring his third with the last kick of the game to seal a memorable 5-3 win.
They’ll now meet AFC Aldermaston in the final on Sunday 11th May in Lambourn, after they beat Frilsham 3-1 at home earlier this month.
The final of the Lambourn Cup will see Diamond take on NWX at Ecchinswell on Sunday 4th May.
Diamond beat Thatcham Tornadoes 3-1 in their semi-final, while NWX saw off Kingsclere.
The Jim Wild Memorial Shield Final will see Thatcham Tornadoes face NWX in Lambourn on 13th April.
Meanwhile, there was one league game played on Sunday, as leaders NWX travelled to Aldbourne Royals.
The reigning champions put eight goals past their hosts, as Callum Yates, Jamie Wallin, and Ben Luckett got a goal each.
Will Seddon, Kye Williams and Paul Hirst all scored, whilst Alfie Davis Ellard bagged a brace and two assists in a dominant victory.
