Oktoberfest to bring action-packed season to an end

Newbury Racecourse is in the midst of its biggest summer of racing and entertainment to date, with large crowds, unforgettable performances - both on and off the track - and an action-packed Flat season calendar concluding with the eagerly anticipated BetVictor Flat Finale and Oktoberfest Weekend on Friday and Saturday October 24/25.

More than 15,500 fans flocked to the Racecourse for Weatherbys Super Sprint Day on Saturday, July 19 - Newbury’s biggest crowd since July 2023.

After Anthelia stole the show from hot favourite Havana Hurricane in a photo-finish in the day’s feature race, racegoers were treated to chart-topping live music from Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ella Henderson.

The crowds continued throughout the summer with the return of July’s Summer Evening Series in partnership with Hits Radio, drawing in 10,000 attendees across its 70s Disco, Wild Wild West, and Ibiza Beach Club themed events - a 36-per-cent increase in attendance compared to 2024.

August was no exception to the excitement, as music and racing lovers turned out in force to enjoy performances from Björn Again on Friday, August 15 before Clean Bandit headlined Visit Malta Hungerford Day on Saturday, August 16 as part of the Racecourse’s first ever back-to-back music raceday weekend.

Looking ahead, the summer music line-up reaches its crescendo on Saturday, September 20, with BRIT Award-winner James Bay headlining during the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend.

The meeting, featuring the Dubai Duty Free Autumn Cup, Group 3 Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes and Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (In honour of Geoff Lewis), promises further top-class racing alongside a full programme of entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

The grand finale of Newbury’s Flat season comes in the form of the BetVictor Flat Finale with Oktoberfest.

The Racecourse will be transformed into a Bavarian wonderland, complete with bierkellers, bratwurst, steins, pretzels and live oompah bands.

Racegoers are encouraged to dust off their lederhosen and dirndl and immerse themselves in the festivities, with an Oktoberfest afterparty keeping the fun going well into Saturday night.

On the track, the racing is equally impressive. Saturday’s card includes two Group 3 contests - the BetVictor Horris Hill Stakes and the BetVictor St Simon Stakes - along with the Listed D&H Racing Radley Stakes.

As the weekend brings down the curtain on the Flat action, attention will then turn to the upcoming Coral Gold Cup, one of the standout fixtures in the National Hunt calendar and a season highlight for all Jumps-lovers.
