Hassell-Collins set to make England debut
Ollie Hassell-Collins is set to make his England debut on Saturday when new head coach Steve Borthwick's side welcome Scotland to Twickenham in the Calcutta Cup.
The 24-year-old winger has been pushing for a start in England's Six Nations opener following an excellent season with London Irish in which he's scored eight tries, making him the league's joint-third leading scorer.
Hassell-Collins, who attended St Bartholomew's School and first played rugby for Newbury RFC, was twice called up to previous head coach Eddie Jones' squad but has had to be patient when it comes to winning his first cap.
Former Leicester Tigers head coach Borthwick replaced Jones after the Australian was sacked in December and included Hassell-Collins in his initial 36-man Six Nations training camp last month.
Borthwick then included Hassell-Collins in his 29-man squad for the game against Scotland and he now looks poised to feature in England's back three.
The winger is known for his pace and power as well as his skill and composure underneath the high ball, while his left footed kicking could come in handy in the absence of the injured Henry Slade.
Borthwick is a renowned Hassell-Collins fan. The former England captain was head coach of Leicester, guiding his side to the Premiership title last year, and is said to have been instrumental in luring the winger to Welford Road following rumours of an apparent move ahead of next season.
Borthwick's team is set to be confirmed at 14:45.
