Netball: Newbury Junior Netball Club enjoys winning weekend in Berkshire Junior League
It was a winning weekend for Newbury’s young netballers on Sunday.
Four teams of Newbury Junior Netball Club were in action and all came away victorious in their Berkshire Junior Netball League matches, which were held at Wellington College in Crowthorne.
Club head coach, Zoe Wright, said it had been an “amazing, winning day”.
The Under 11s beat Woodley White 24-12, with best players awarded to Arya and Georgie.
The next game up was the Under 13s, who beat Woodley Blue 31-27. Best players in that game were Izzy and Lily.
The Under 14s continued the club’s winning ways, with another victory against Woodley Blue.
They won 50-45 to remain top of their league this season. Best players went to Annabelle and Matil.
The U16 Bs then finished the day off perfectly, making it four wins out of four, when they defeated Woodley White 59-35.
Best players went to Meg and Sophie L.
Mrs Wright, who is also the Under 13s coach, added: “There were lots of very proud coaches this weekend.
“It shows all the hard work in training is really paying off. There was some outstanding netball on show and some very close moments with the girls fighting for every ball. And most importantly, lots of smiles.”
Ali Stamp, U14 coach, added: “The U14’s game was a toughly contested one, against a strong side. The girls fought hard to secure the win to keep them at the top of the Berkshire League.”
Lorraine Bowden, U11 coach, said: “The girls played with determination and there was some lovely linking passes up court.”
Last weekend the club’s Under 12 team were in action and secured their first win of the season, when they beat Woodley 23-12. Best players were Flora and Nya.
Coach Tina Wood said: “The U12s fought hard for their first win of the season. The defence worked tirelessly to create turnovers and once in possession of the ball it flowed through court to the shooters who finished it with a goal. Great team work.”
The Under 16 A side have enjoyed a few weeks off after starting the year with a 49-29 win against Woodley. Best players in that match were Charlotte and Catherine.
