Fun for all at Thatcham Bowls Club as mayor pays a visit

Thatcham Bowling Club hosted their successful annual open day last month.

The event saw Thatcham Mayor Suzanne Adamantos try her hand at the game, enjoying conversation with club members and visitors.

As part of Bowls’ Big Weekend, a drive by the national body to boost participation, the club opened its doors to anyone interested in giving the sport a go.

The reigning Kennet League champions pride themselves on offering opportunities for everyone to play, with club competitions for those looking to play for fun, as well as teams competing in national championships.

This season has got off to a mixed start for Thatcham’s top level Kennet League side.

A comfortable opening night victory away at Didcot was followed by a defeat away to Hagbourne, both on challenging greens.

A first home tie saw the defeat of Abingdon, whilst top of the league Shrivenham shared the same fate a week later.

Thatcham then made it three wins in a row, defeating Trentham away from home to leave them fourth in the Kennet League Division 1 West.

Anyone who would like to try out the sport is encouraged to contact their nearest club, where coaching is available to all ages and abilities.
