Blues field strongest side for season's closer at Monks Lane

NEWBURY BLUES will resist the temptation of giving some of their younger, newer and fringe players a run-out to pay tribute to the stalwarts who have taken them into third place in South West One East when they complete their programme at home to Trowbridge on Saturday.

Pipped for the runners-up and play-off place by Salisbury, Blues will field their strongest available line-up with the aim of signing off with a flourish that would condemn Saturday’s visitors to relegation.

Missing out on a top two place was a disappointment but, said head coach Lee Goodall: “It can’t detract from a wonderful season, when we have the same win, lose and draw record as the two teams above us and have beaten the league leaders at home and away.

“Let’s celebrate our success this year which can hopefully be topped on Saturday with a good performance.”

Andy Herriott and Chris Guyatt are missing from the squad, but Ben O’Shea, Ollie Spanswick and Anthony Hackett all return and Toby Thorne and Tom Sanders hope to come through fitness tests to play.
