Golden Clouds for Ollie and Lambourn
Hero's welcome awaits Grand National winner and trainer Oliver Sherwood
THERE will be a hot reception for Grand National winner Many Clouds when the horse returns to Lambourn on Sunday morning following his stunning Aintree victory.
The Hennessy Gold Cup-winner was ridden home by Leighton Aspell for the jockey’s second successsive victory in the race, and it shook aside most local disappointment after AP McCoy missed out on ending his career with a National win.
It was the Rhonehurst trainer’s first National success and the horse stormed home at 25-1 to wipe out any concerns after a disappointing Cheltenham Gold Cup wen he finisihed sixth behind Coneygree.
"The horse has been unbelievable all season, said Sherwood. “He has blossomed all year. He just got out of bed the wrong way in the Gold Cup.
"I can't believe it.”
"I've done nothing with this horse since Cheltenham,” he added. “He hasn't seen a National fence. I didn't think it was the right thing to do. He's done two quiet bits of work and that's all I've done with him.”
The horse is set to be paraded through the village on Sunday morning when a hero’s welcome awaits.
