Leon Greenwood powers Britain to sixth consecutive podium as they seal third in Bobsleigh World Cup in Lillehammer
Newbury’s Leon Greenwood has helped Great Britain to third overall in the Bobsleigh World Cup.
The team were within 0.36 seconds of finishing second overall, but were forced to settle for bronze at the final round in Lillehammer, Norway, by the slimmest of margins.
Their third place finish on Sunday was their sixth podium in a row, having taken a medal at all but one of the World Cup rounds.
Team Kennet sprint coach Greenwood has powered his team to much of this success, taking medals in Innsbruck, Austria and back to back bronzes in Norway.
The highlight however, will be St. Moritz, where Greenwood won his first ever bobsleigh gold medal.
The World Cup was won by Francesco Friedrich’s team, who won three gold medals and never dropped below second place across all seven rounds. He is now a seven time World Cup winner.
Another German team, that of Johannes Lochner, took second overall.
Greenwood and his teammates were agonisingly close, finishing on 1444 points, just two behind second place.
Attention now turns to the Europe Cup, held in Winterberg and St. Moritz, which starts this weekend.
Then all eyes are on Lake Placid, USA, as the World Championships get underway on March 15th.
