Happy Holladays!




NICK and Kathryn Holladay clinched victory in Newbury & Crookham’s annual Mixed Open on Sunday.

Sixty-four players entered the competition – which was being held for the first time in three years – from different clubs in the area.

And the Holladays, from Corhampton GC, won by virtue of a better back nine, with 43 points.

John and Avril Chambers from Ferndown GC were pipped on countback, with Alan and Jane Douglas from Stoneham GC third.

The team with the best score on the front nine were Rachel Taylor and Peter Davis with 21 points and the best back nine score went to Sally and Richard Porter with 23.

n Newbury & Crookham held their annual Yellow Ball Competition over the May Bank Holiday.

The nerve-racking format required each team to keep their single yellow ball for the duration of the round.

The winning team were Craig Pearce, Daniel Pearce, Richard Stewart and Rob Halewood with 88 points.

One point adrift were Ross Wilson, Jack Crossan, Charlie Gray and Tony Ruczynski, with Pat Frith, Penny, Mike and Sam Cowley third on 86.

The team who lost their yellow ball, but had the best single ball score, were Hugh Turley, Liam Turley, Nick
Vanstone and John Martin with 54.

Newbury & Crookham’s mixed team went to North Oxford and lost by one match.

In the High Silver League, Newbury’s Carol Thorogood, Louise Willson, Mandy Burton, Miwa Beer and Diana Davies won all their matches.
