Harriet takes to water, wheels and road for GB

The Reading-based Tri20 Club member will be racing in the 40-44 age group over the Hyde Park Olympic course comprising a 1500 metre swim in The Serpentine, a 40kim bike section to Tower Bridge and return and a final 10km race through the park.
The 40-year old from Bradfield-Southend is one of nine members of the club to qualify for the GB team, which will be rubbing shoulders with the World Triathlon grand finalists including Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee.
It will be a second world championship for Harriet, who previously finished ninth in the Budapest event and she is hopeful of emulating that at least in London.
“I won the veterans group in the Englefield 10K recently as part of my build-up” she said, “and I have been training or 30 hours a week.”
Her work as a fitness instructor, personal trainer and nutritionist based at the local cricket club also helps. “It means that I have a perfect training ground on my doorstep”, she said.
The London championship could also be a step to bigger things for Harriet, who is planning to move up to ‘ironman’ distances next season.
“I’m thinking of moving to it,” she said, “and it would be an even greater challenge.
“That would mean taking part in Austria in June.
“I enjoy it when its over,” she said, “but I’m not s sure when you’re suffering while racing for 12 hours!”
She will be joined in the British team by her Tri20 team-mates Glyn Bevan, Ellie Barnes, Katie Henderson, Glen Hall, Edwina McDowall, Iain Gerrard , Sally Waterman and Clare Lait.
