Ben Hicks triumphs in Northampton for Thames Valley ABC

Thames Valley ABC's Lewis Hicks boxed Darius Szekley of Wellingborough at the Northampton Amateur Boxing Club’s open show on Saturday.

Both boxers started with a good work rate, letting combinations flow.

16-year-old Hicks was the more accurate however, using his right hand lead to take control of the first round.

In the second round Szekley came out trying to gain control with left and right combinations, but Hicks was more mobile, making his opponent miss and catching Szekley with a right and left cross.

Round three saw Hicks force Szekley backwards and catch him with flurries.

Both boxers were starting to feel the tempo of the previous rounds, but Hicks had more stamina and accuracy to catch his opponent who threw wildly, missing Lewis and draining his own energy.

Lewis won unanimously on all three judges' score cards.

This was a good experience for Hicks, going the distance and gaining the ring mileage which all good boxers need.

Thames Valley ABC are once again holding their Annual Dinner Show at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday 10th May, presenting The Young Lion & Lionesses.

They are looking for Tournament and Bout sponsors for the show. Contact Paul Cooke for more details on 07904030962.
