History awaits for Kingsclere in county cup final

A shot at history awaits this weekend for one Newbury Sunday League side.

Kingsclere, who finished runners up in the league this year, have been on the march in the Hampshire FA Sunday Trophy.

They’ll travel down to Winkebury Football Complex, the home of Basingstoke Town, this Sunday for the final.

They’ll face AFC Tukkers, a side from the Andover and District Sunday League.

Founded in 2018, AFC Tukkers have had a similar season to Kingsclere, finishing runners up in the league despite losing only two games all season.

As for Kingsclere, a county cup win would be a just reward for what has been a near perfect campaign.

Their only two losses in the league this season came to eventual unbeaten champions NWX.

In the cup however, Kingsclere beat Southampton-based Embley Park 10-0 away from home in the second round.

The third round saw a walkover win against Gosport Town, before they were awarded another walkover against Merville Athletic.

In the quarters they travelled to another Southampton side, Sporting Compass, who they beat 2-1.

The semi final saw them host CT United of the Gosport, Fareham & Solent Football League, who they beat 4-1 to reach the final.

A good turnout is expected on Sunday, with kick-off set for 10:30 at Winklebury Football Complex, Winklebury Way, Basingstoke RG23 8BF.

Entry is £5 for adults, £2.50 for concessions and under-10s go free.

Many Kingsclere supporters will be getting the 32(A) bus from Newbury or the 9am bus from the square in Kingsclere, where they’ll walk from Rooksdown.
