Hummel blasts unbeaten double hundred as Woodhay are crowned champions
East Woodhay were crowned Division 2 champions after a remarkable 300-run win over Sparsholt 2nd.
Woodhay won the toss, chose to bat and posted a mammoth 420/4 from their 45 overs.
Opener Ben Hummel made a magnificent 233 not out in just 138 balls, smashing 35 fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 168.84.
Hummel combined with Barnaby Talbot-Williams for a 369-run third wicket partnership to take Woodhay’s score from 37/2 to 406/3 when Talbot-Williams was eventually caught on 135.
Talbot-Williams (3-23) then starred with the ball as Sparsholt were all out for 120 in the 39th over.
There were also wickets for Alan Williams (2-21), Jamie Dalrymple (2-25) and Samuel Clements (2-28) as Woodhay secured promotion to Division 1 in the most emphatic of fashions.
Elsewhere, Hungerford finished their season with a disappointing 116-run defeat against Farley.
The result means Hungerford finish second bottom in the Division 3 North table.
Farley won the toss and amassed an impressive 314/9 from their 45 overs while there were two wickets apiece for Hungerford’s Robert Grimmond (2-23), Andrew Burbidge (2-39) and Seb Lake (2-57).
In response, Hungerford were never able to recover from slumping to 6/2 and were all-out for 198 despite a better than a run-a-ball 59 from Seb Lake.
Kingsclere were on the wrong end of a thumping 242-run defeat at the hands of Odiham and Greywell 2nd and finish the Division 4 North season in ninth.
Odiham made the most of winning the toss and reached 336/8 in the first innings.
Ed Lyle (2-60) and Daniel Jones (2-69) picked up two wickets each on a difficult final afternoon of the season for Kingsclere’s bowlers
Things didn’t prove any easier with the bat as Kingsclere slumped to 124 all-out with only opener Peter Frith (25) providing any sort of resistance.
There was better news for Kingsclere’s Division 4 North rivals Ashford Hill who travelled to Whitchurch and returned home with a 51-run win to secure fourth place in the table.
Ashford Hill had half centuries from opener Ollie Williams (59) and number eight Mark Williamson (50 not out) to thank as they posted a competitive 236/8 from their 45 first innings overs.
It was then the turn of bowlers Garry Masters (3-18) and Adnan Khan (3-29) to star as Whitchurch were bowled all out for just 185.
There was disappointment for Donnington, who suffered a 23-run defeat against St Mary Bourne despite five wickets for Steve Wood (5-35) and 50 from Antony Durdin.
Chasing 155, Donnington collapsed from 120/5 to 131 all-out and a disappointing final day defeat.
AWE Tadley finished 12th in Division 6 North East following an emphatic 10 wicket win over Old Basing 4th on the final day of the season.
Tadley’s Will Philpott (5-27) bagged an impressive five-fer while openers William Belfield (74 not out) and Tom Moore (56 not out) combined for a 159-run opening stand to secure a comfortable win.
