The Newbury man didn’t hold back in the second set as he raced into a two-leg lead after another break of throw.

However a crucial 113 checkout ensured that Rodriguez got on the board as he registered his first leg of the contest to make it 2-1.

Despite reducing the deficit, Humphries got over the line to add a second set to his tally.

He continued his fine form in the third set with a break of throw after a well-timed checkout of 101.

A hold of throw followed and Humphries took advantage when Rodriguez missed a dart to level in third set as he secured the win.

As a result of his victory, he will face Dave Chisnall in the third round on Wednesday, December 29.

Meanwhile, Jason Heaver returns to the Alexandra Palace stage on Thursday evening when he plays Danny Noppert in the second round.
