Hungerford aim for permanent top five stay
After entering the play-off zone this week, Hungerford Town are looking at a two-month season to stay there
HUNGERFORD TOWN hit the top five play-off zone in the Zamaretto Legaue's Division One South and West this week, but now face the task of staying there.
Tuesday night's topsy-turvy 3-2 home win over Abingdon United netted Hungerford their fourth win in five games and put them two points clear of the other chasers, and with games in hand.
"But we're not counting those," said manager Bobby Wilkinson. "We've got in there, but now we've got to stay there.
"It's a two month season for us now. We've taken 13 points out of 15 to get there, but in the month before that we took four out of 21.
"It can turn around as quickly as that."
Hungerford have two tricky-looking games this week, starting with Saturday's trip to Yate Town. And on Tuesday night they entertain the Gosport Borough side now immediately beneath them in the table.
But Wilkinson should have a full-strength squad available to him. Defenders Simon Herbert and Matt Day returned to action this week and striker Adam Wallace is also set to figure after recovering from a broken toe.
Hungerford's trip to Cinderford Town, washed out last Saturday, has been re-scheduled for Thursday, March 24.
