Hungerford aim to take Trophy form back into league action

HUNGERFORD TOWN hope to carry Tuesday night’s FA Trophy form at Banbury into league action when they head to Frome Town on Saturday.

That 3-0 win at Banbury was arguably Hungerford’s best display of the season and said manager Bobby Wilkinson: “We want to keep doing that, but I’ve told the players to relax and enjoy your football and stop worrying about the pressure.

“There’s been too much pressure on them,” he added, “and I hold up my hands to putting too much on the boys because I want to do so well with them.”

They will face a Frome side being reshaped by recently appointed manager Nick Bunyard, who previously bossed Paulton Rovers.

Hungerford should have winger Garyn Preen available after he gashed a leg at Banbury, and Wilkinson is just waiting to see if Jon Boardman and Scott Rees have any reaction after they made their returns from injury in the Trophy tie.

Thatcham Town new boy Jon Bennett netted twice in a 4-1 midweek Floodlit Cup win at Oxford City Nomads and will make his league debut for the club at Ardley United on Saturday.

Bennett scored seven times in six games for Flackwell Heath this season after signing on dual registration terms from Burnham, and will replace Marcus Mealing following his recent return to Marlow.
