Hungerford all chilled out

Bridgwater league trip before new Senior Cup date on Tuesday night

HUNGERFORD were denied a warm-up for Saturday's Evo Stik League trip to Bridgwater Town when Tuesday night's Berks and Bucks Senior Cup tie with Burnham was abandoned after only 10 minutes.

Hungerford had just gone ahead with a Luke Hopper goal when the referee ended the game on the frozen surface, confusing manager Bobby Wilkinson.

"I'd have had no problems if the referee had called it off before the start," he said, "but to say it was playable and then call it off after 10 minutes was ridiculous.

"The pitch was never going to get any better, so why start it? That was always asking for trouble."

The teams will now meet again at Hungerford on Tuesday night, before which Hungerford go to Bridgwater looking to maintain their quest to catch up on league leaders Bideford.

"I know their manager well," said Wilkinson, "and he has already told me they are going all out to beat us.

"But we seem to have turned the corner after the way we played at Gosport last week."

Hungerford go to Bideford close to full strength with Diak John the only injury doubt. Jon Wheeldon has recovered from injury and Jon Boardman was rested in midweek as a precaution.
