Hungerford bow out to 10 men
Trailing to a goal inside three minutes, Hungerford laboured to find their form and it was the home side who had the chances to settle the tie before Hungerford scored late on to offer brief hope of salvaging the tie.
They trailed to a nightmare goal, goalkeeper Paul Strudley’s poor kick being compounded as Gary Horgan and Diak John failed to clear and Ed Smith picked his spot to score.
Hungerford created little and did not test Slough goalkeeper James Warrington for more than an hour while Strudley had to save from Sean Sonner while Luke Hopper and Ben Pugh could not find a decisive touch in the box when the home defence wobbled.
Slough’s hopes should have sunk when Sonner saw a straight red card for a lunge a Bradley Gray, but it was Strudley’s cross bar that came to Hungerford’s rescue when Danny Burnell fired from 30 yards and last-gasp interceptions form Jon Boardman and Luke Brewer denied Slough until the latter stages when Stuart Swift left Strudley flat-footed with a serving shot from distance.
Hopper pounced to pull one back at the start of stoppage time, but a frenetic finish produced nothing more but a first-hurdle exit from the competition.
