Hungerford FC beaten in Somerset

The West Berkshire outfit went into the game as favourites, sitting pretty at the top of the league, while their opponents were languishing near the relegation zone.
However a lacklustre performance by Hungerford allowed Taunton to rip up the script book and record a well-deserved victory.
Hungerford started well, creating an early chance for striker Luke Hopper, but his shot was well saved by Taunton stopper Conor Thompson. It was one of the few saves that Thompson had to make during the game
After 23 minutes it was the home side who took the lead through Craig Herrold, who capitalised on a mistake by Hungerford defender Diak John.
Hungerford only managed a couple of half chances during the remainder of the first half, Jon Boardman’s free kick was deflected wide, while another set play, this time taken by Ryan Crockford, flew over the crossbar.
Chances were few and far between in the second period, but it was the home side who were the more clinical, doubling their lead in the 53rd minute through striker Carl Cliff Brown.
Hungerford had a number of half-chances during the second half, the best of which landed on the roof of the net after a speculative shot by John.
Hungerford have a busy Christmas and New Year schedule, starting with a home fixture against Bridgwater Town on Saturday and an away trip to North Leigh on Boxing Day.
