HUNGERFORD TOWN make the trek through The Valleys to Merthyr Tydfil tonight (Tuesday) for the first meeting with Merthyr Town since beating them in the 2013 play-off final to win promotion to the Evo Stik League Southern’s Premier Division for the first time.

Hungerford had their full 19-strong squad at the ground on Monday night to arrange final details for the trip, and will make the near 250- mile round trip on the back of Saturday’s last-gasp win over Histon.

Merthyr’s early form has been patchy since they finally sealed promotion at the end of last season, but Ryan Prosser returned to the side on Saturday to pot both goals in a 2-1 win at St Neots Town.

Merthyr also have enw signing from Cirencester Town, Gethin Jones in their squad while Hungerford’s Garyn Preen returns to face one of his former clubs.

It will be a ‘dry’ night for supporters at Penydarren Park with licensing issues meaning no alcohol is on sale at the ground.

Thatcham Town entertain Oxford City Nomads in the Hellenic League’s Premier Division, and a win could take them to the top of the table of bottom of the table Wokingham and Emmbrook pull off a major surprise by beating reigning champions and current leaders Flackwell Heath.
