Hungerford play Thatcham in crucial game today (Monday)

IT'S a top of the table clash at Bulpit Lane today as Hungerford take on local rivals Thatcham.

Hungerford are currently second in the table with Thatcham two points behind in third but with a game in hand.

Thatcham will be more confident going into the game with a 1-1 draw at home to Didcot Town on New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile, Hungerford lost their New Year's Eve fixture 2-1 away at second bottom club Wimborne.

Newbury were also in action on New Year's Eve, drawing 2-2 at home to rivals Lambourn Sports.

The result means Newbury drop to second place in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East, but the West Berkshire side have five games in hand over top side, Highmoor Ibis.

Reading continued their fine form with a 1-0 victory at home to Ipswich New Year's Day.

Centre back Alex Pearce scored the only goal of the game with a bullet header in the 64th minute.

The Royals, who are now fifth in the league, travel to fourth place Cardiff today at 3pm.
