HUNGERFORD secured a comfortable passage to St Neots Town in the next round of the FA Trophy after restoring order at Banbury’s Spencer Stadium on Tuesday night.

Banbury had shut out the Premier Division side on Saturday, but Hungerford were in full charge on the return date, despite losing winger Garyn Preen to injury early on.

But his replacement - skipper Mark Draycott - came off the bench to end his lean run with a superbly taken finish that put Hungerford two-up at the break.

They had gone ahead with an even better goal, blasted home from distance by Matt Day as Hungerford imposed their authority from the start.

They wrapped it up late on when Draycott was brought down on the edge the area but referee Daniel Middleton allowed the advantage and Mike Jones pocketed the loose ball to complete an impressive showing.

New signing Jon Bennett netted twice as Thatcham Town won 4-1 at Oxford City Nomads in the Hellenic League’s Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup. Ian Davies and Tom Melledew were Town’s other marksmen.
