Hungerford secure play-off spot

North Leigh’s 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Poole Town ended their lingering hopes in the Evo Stik League’s Division One South and West, and it now looks likely that Hungerford will have to go to Poole in the play-off semi-finals.
Hungerford have home game to play – at home to North Leigh on Saturday – while Poole entertain Bideford and Sholing and Gosport Borough join the jostling for final places against Yate Town and Bishops Cleeve respectively.
Poole’s 2-0 interval lead in Oxfordshire gave Hungerford breathing space at Bideford, where the hosts collected the championship trophy at the final whistle.
Hungerford could afford their own celebrations, despite losing to a penalty 15 minutes from time. The visitors had their chances against a side unbeaten at home in more than a year but the winner came when Sean Downing was brought down and Matt Hockley scored from the spot.
