Hungerford secure win with penalty

A 75th-minute penalty saw Hungerford defeat eight-man Taunton Town at Bulpit Lane on Saturday

HUNGERFORD TOWN needed a late penalty from Ben McCready to beat eight-man Taunton Town at Bulpit Lane.

It was another nightmare trip to West Berkshire for the Somerset side, who had two players sent off when losing by the same score at Thatcham last October.

Three of their ranks saw red on Saturday, all in the final 15 minutes.

They also conceded two spot kicks, but goalkeeper Chris Astley saved Ryan Crockford's 20th minute effort after Luke Cole had handled Jemel Johnson's cross, and it was another handball, this time by Tim Legg, that enabled McCready to break the deadlock after 75 minutes.

That led to Taunton losing their discipline with Legg going for dissent, Jon Vance for a second booking and Chris McGrath for a foul on Johnson.
