Hungerford slip up at home

HUNGERFORD lost a little more ground in the Evo Stik League title race as lowly Clevedon belied their position by claiming a deserved point at Bulpit Lane on Saturday.
The home side were rarely at their best, despite rallying quickly after conceding an early goal, and they missed the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Bideford in advance of a tricky trip to third in the table Sholing on Wednesday night.
They were a goal down after 10 minutes on Saturday when Clevedon's Jack McKenna left teenage goalkeeper Stuart Moore helpless from outside the box, but were back on terms two minutes later when Mark Draycott turned his marker to score from the edge of the area.
Draycott almost struck again after being teed up by striking partner Luke Hopper, but Clevedon's Chas Hemmings missed a simple chance before the break and the giant striker might have done it again when he was let in by a Ryan Crockford error, only to delay his shot and have defenders block him out.
Hungerford might have snatched it in the end however, when Dean Stow crossed for substitute Zayne Simpson to head against the bar.
