Hungerford stay unbeaten in 2025, as they win on Tiverton ‘bog’
Hungerford Town manager Danny Robinson was thrilled as his side remained unbeaten in 2025.
The Crusaders now sit eighth in the Southern League Premier Division South, with playoffs now a very real consideration.
The Crusaders cruised past Tiverton away from home 3-0, thanks to a Rhys Tyler strike and a Jose Marquez brace.
“I thought Rhys Tyler was outstanding, not just his goal, but his all-round play,” Robinson said.
“The pitch was like a bog, and it just got progressively worse as the game went on.
“I can’t moan, because we don’t have the greatest pitch either!
“It was a really good, battling performance on a difficult pitch.”
Marquez is now Hungerford’s top scorer this season, a remarkable feat considering he’s only been at Bulpit lane for a few months.
“I loved his second goal,” Robinson reflected.
“The ball died on the pitch, and he just managed to get there before the goalkeeper.
“To hit it first time… a brilliant finish. That was my favourite of his so far.
“He’s getting better and better.”
With Marquez leading the charge, Hungerford have won seven of their eight league games in 2025.
They haven’t lost a league game since 2024, and playoffs are now very much within sight.
“Even before this run, I thought we could beat anybody in this position on our day,” he said.
“Since the turn of the year the lads have been exceptional.
“There are a lot of factors before we can think about the P-word.”
Hungerford have further reinforcements on the way, although some well liked members of the squad have recently departed.
“Jacob Bancroft is out for three more weeks,” he said.
“Apart from that, everyone is fit.
“Alefe Santos has gone to Shaftesbury, and Baboucarr Jarra has knocked football on the head.
“He’s currently doing his train driving exams, so he can’t afford to miss that.
“The squad has dwindled in numbers a bit, but it’s an enjoyable group to work with.”
Jordon Ibe has played something of a wildcard role so far.
He’s made three league appearances off the bench, scoring a beautiful dinked finish in a midweek win against Chertsey.
“We have to have patience with him,” he said.
“He hasn’t played football properly for about 18-months.
“He’s done really well in training, and you get on the edge of your seat every time he touches the ball.
“You think something magical is going to happen.
“We’ll get him up to speed, but he’s immersed himself really well, he’s one of the lads.”
