Hungerford stymied by nine-man Frome

It might have been more as substitute Mark Francis got away to hit the post in the closing stages for what would have been a nightmare blow to Hungerford in advance of Tuesday night’s trip to Southern League leaders Poole Town.
Despite a poor first half showing, Hungerford went ahead after 33 minutes through Lee Smith but that was as good as the finishing got. Frome had already been reduced to 10 men when defender Mark Cooper went in two-footed on Ian Herring, but the visitors rallied to pull l level at the start of the second period when half-time substitute Mark Ford was played in to score.
Goalkeeper and skipper Darren Chitty made two outstanding saves but otherwise Hungerford’s finishing was abysmal, even after Frome had Brandon Mundy sent off for a second yellow card for time-wasting.
It was a tale of woe elsewhere as

went down 4-1 at Highworth Town in the Hellenic League and

crashed 4-0 at home to Thame United.
