In-form Hungerford continue play-off march

HUNGERFORD Town manager Bobby Wilkinson insists he is not getting carried away despite his side’s impressive recent form.
Wilkinson’s side took a step closer to a play-off place with a 3 – 0 win over Arlesey Town on Saturday (pictured) and followed that with a 2 - 0 victory against Bashley on Tuesday night.
Town are now unbeaten in six and have scored 12 goals in their last three games without conceding – including a 7 – 0 victory earlier this month.
Stefan Brown opened the scoring after 31 minutes and the in-form Mark Draycott doubled their lead four minutes later.
Wilkinson said: “It has been a fantastic four days for this football club and what we are achieving is amazing but I don’t want to get too carried away.
“If you look at the form book for the last six games only Chesham – who are absolutely flying – are above us.
“I have got my ambitions and I promise everyone at Hungerford I will work as hard as I can and fight to the last game of the season to get this club where they should be.”
Hungerford attacked from the off and gained two early corners, but Brown could not control the through ball when they set up another attack.
Alan O’Brien’s pace down the left continually stretched the home defence, but it was Brown’s tight ball control which set up the opening goal, when he fired home from a narrow angle.
Draycott, who scored a hat-trick in Hungerford’s 7 – 0 win over...last weekend, made it 2-0 only minutes later, driving the ball into the roof of the net with a spectacular finish.
The home side had rarely threatened, but there was a worrying moment when Hungerford ‘keeper Paul Strudley had blurred vision and was unable to continue and Ian Herring took over in goal and Luke Brewer coming on in midfield.
Herring looked an accomplished custodian and was in good form, handling the ball confidently and coming quickly off his line to take control whenever there was any danger.
Hungerford comfortably held on to take all three points and keep their promotion hopes very much intact.
Team; Strudley(Brewer), Hughes, John, Horgan, Day, Rees, Clark, Herring, Brown(Hopper),Draycott, O’Brien( Stow ). Subs;Goodger, Stanley.
