Injury brings Cup tie to an early halt
Hungerford leading FA Youth Cup clash at Forest Green when home substitute is hurt
HUNGERFORD TOWN Academy’s FA Youth Cup tie at Forest Green Rovers was abandoned six minutes from time on Tuesday night following a serious injury to home substitute Jack Holmes.
He took an accidental knee in the back that caused nerve issues, while the player lapsed in and out of consciousness duting the lengthy wait for an ambulance to get to the Nailsworth ground.
However, the Vanarama National League club’s medical team was on hand to handle the situation and Hungerford first team manager Bobby Wilkinson - who was in the dug-out - praised their work.
“They were absolutely first class and the way the club handled it was as well. They are a really superbly run outfit.
“We are just waiting to hear how the lad is, but obviously our thoughts are with him and his parents.”
Hungerford were leading at the time through a Conor Lynch goal, with the winners due to travel to Yeovil Town in the First Round Proper.
