Jamie throws a hammer record
He produced the longest throw of the day in the opening hammer event, and with it the longest by an under 15 in the UK this season of 59.59 metres.
With a number of English Schools medalists and British Masters champions in the field, it was no surprise that the standard of performance was very high.
In the shot and discus, Bob Broadbridge was Newbury’s highest-placed athlete after finishing second in both events with 13.40m and 45.22m respectively, Derek Philbey finishing just adrift in the shot but winning the javelin with a throw of just under 40 metres.
The final event saw Newbury’s Lee Doran throw the heavy hammer 18.14m for a personal best and second best throw of the competition, having earlier thrown a PB of 38.02m in the discus.
Broadbridge was the overall winner with a personal best return of 3846 points.
BBC commentator and coach Paul Dickenson attended the event while Newbury also presented some unusual awards with Lee Doran claiming the worst javelin throw and Jamie Kuehnel the ‘loudest shout of the day.’
