Hungerford stay ahead of the rest in Zamaretto League promotion play-off race

TWO Jemel Johnson goals kept Hungerford ahead of the chasing pack in the Zamaretto League play-off race, although it needed another late strike to settle the issue.

Hungerford were generally on top but were made to work hard for the points by the visitors, despite Johnson's 20th minute breakthrough.

Bridgwater staged a second half rally but lacked the power to test goalkeeper Jonathan Henly, although Hungerford had to wait until 90 minute were up before Johnson raced through to score the decisive second goal.

Hungerford face a greater test tonight (Tuesday) when league leaders AFC Totton visit Bulpit Lane for a 7.30pm kick-off.

THATCHAM kept their fifth straight clean sheet to make it 15 points out of 15 as they continued their hot streak of form.

The decisive goal came just before half-time when Sean Cook collected a Scott Rees flick and spotted goalkeeper Paul Evans of his line before scoring with a perfect lob.

James Clark hit the post after the break, when Thatcham's defence played its part in securing the points that kept their side in the top half of the table.

Thatcham are in action tonight (Tuesday) when they entertain bottom of the table Andover with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Newbury 2 Penn and Tylers Green 0

NEWBURY closed in on Hellenic League Division One East leaders Holyport as they stretched their unbeaten record to six games.

The leaders crashed 2-1 at home to mid-table Woodley Town while Newbury took advantage to close the gap at the top to two points, but with a game in hand.

Both goals came late in the game from Shaun Thorp and Kalief Madden. Newbury also have a game tonight (Tuesday) when they entertain Binfield in the quarter-finals of the league's Floodlit Cup at Faraday Road.
