Paggies produce FA Sunday Cup heroics

Paggies Bar FC progressed to the second round of the FA Sunday Cup in sensational fashion, scoring three goals in the last fifteen minutes to come from behind and beat North Watford 3-2.

It’s the first time Paggies, the defending Newbury Sunday League champions, have qualified for the tournament and it looked set to be a fleeting debut before strikes from Terry Patton, Aaron Voller and Carl Jenner turned the contest on its head.

Patton’s effort with a quarter of an hour left gave Paggies hope, Voller equalised with three minutes to gp and then Jenner produced the winner in the third and final minute of added time, prompting “massive scenes” in the words of manager Willie Greenall.

“We had a depleted squad but we showed how good we were from start to finish and to win it like that was incredible, who knows how far we can go,” Greenhall said.

Paggies will take on Ipswich side Borussia Martlesham in the second round.

Meanwhile, OLA Prestige were 5-2 winners over Diamond FC in the one Newbury Sunday League Premier Division fixture of the weekend.

Fellow top division sides Woolton Hill Argyle and Northworx were in Challenge Cup action, Woolton Hill beating Lee Rangers 4-2 but Northworx crashing out with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Bracknell Rangers.

Into Division One and both The Lamb Inn and Brimpton Rangers maintained their unbeaten starts to the season as Black Horse won for the first time, beating Thatcham Wanderers 3-1.
