Johnson hat-trick gives Hungerford win
Jemel Johnson inspired Hungerford to a win at lowly Clevedon on Saturday
JEMEL Johnson was another hat-trick hero as Hungerford Town won at lowly Clevedon to end their recent goals duck.
Clevedon put up a fight and took the lead in the first period before Johnson took over to secure the points.
Jamie Gosling also played a key role in his first appearance since returning to the club, although it was Clevedon who struck first midway through the opening period when Matt Day was penalised for handball and Jonny Moss scored from the penalty spot.
But Johnson prodded home the equaliser 10 minutes later from a Gosling cross and struck again before the interval with Dave Asker the provider.
Hungerford secured the points 13 minutes from time when Johnson scored a spectacular third from distance.
Hungerford are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to promotion hopefuls Almondsbury Town.
Meanwhile, Newbury completed a quick double over Farnborough Town Reserves when winning 2-0 at Faraday Road on Saturday. Newbury had won 4-2 at Farnborough the previous week and goals from Kalief Madden and Darren Jones were enough to see them home this time around to preserve their fourth place in the Hellenic League Division One East table.
Newly appointed player-manager Ian Concannon showed that he has not lost his scoring touch with two late goals to see Hungerford Reserves home at Penn and Tylers Green.
