Robertson stars as Newbury AC impress
Newbury Athletic Club had another very successful day on Sunday when they travelled to a wet and muddy Horspath for round three of the Oxfordshire Cross Country League.
The under-17 girls enjoyed a memorable day as Josie Robertson starred, winning the individual race and combining with teammates Isabel Moore and Miriam Cooper, sixth and seventh respectively, to scoop the team gold medal as well.
Cameron Craik delivered a breakout performance, finishing as the fastest senior man and just five seconds behind the overall winner, under-20 Ben Cumberland of Radley AC.
Craik's run was even more impressive given that the event doubled as the Oxfordshire County Championship race and thus attracted a number of top athletes from clubs outside the league.
Matt Green maintained his consistent form with a ninth placed finish while Bernie Gerrard was next home for Newbury, crossing the line as the third fastest V1 (40-49) man.
Steve Barnes was the fastest V2 (50-59) man and completed Newbury's point scoring, helping the team to a bronze medal.
Geoff Andersen was second in the V4 (70+) category and the depth of Newbury's squad meant the B team finished second overall in Division Two.
Sophie Bhatt impressed in the senior women's race, finishing as the second placed under-20 woman.
Bhatt was joined by Sophie Fowler and Rachel Allen, who was third in the V2 (45-54) category, in the scoring Newbury AC team.
Katya Burgess continued her fantastic season, finishing third in the under-15 girls race.
Georgia Knight was 15th, Rosie Stockwell 20th, Libby Stockwell 23rd and Lily-Mae Gerrard 27th.
Rupert Knight impressed once again, finishing fifth in the under 11 boys race, with Jude Bennet in 14th and Codie Evans 26th.
There were also strong runs from Emilia Beever, Olivia Osborne, James Higgs, Oliver Blatchford, Jacob Glendenning, Charlie Adams and Matthew Carter.
